There are many different breeds of hamster and it's a good idea to do a bit of research about them before you get one. Syrian hamsters which are the larger most common hamsters live alone in the wild, only meeting other hamsters to breed, so it's best to keep this kind of hamster on its own otherwise they may fight. Other breeds, such as Russian dwarf hamsters, are more sociable and prefer to live in pairs or groups.Phylogenetically, Mammalian is defined as all descendants of the most recent common ancestor of monotremes (e.g., echidnas and platypuses) and therian mammals
Food and Water
Hamsters can eat a mixture of cereals, fruit and vegetables but you can buy specially prepared hamster food. Always make sure that your hamster has access to fresh drinking water a drip bottle is ideal, but make sure it doesn't get blocked or go green. Your hamster can have small amounts of fresh vegetables every now and then for variety but you must remove food that hasn't been eaten to avoid it spoiling.

As hamsters are mostly nocturnal so they need to live away from noise so they don't get disturbed during the day while they are asleep. Check that your hamster's enclosure that it is big enough for it to run around in ramps and tubes are a good idea to help them exercise.
You must also take into consideration when buying your hamster a cage that it should be spacious and quite secure. Male hamsters can live comfortable in a medium sized cage but if you are thinking of breeding, females require a larger area to raise their young
Make sure that it is not near any drafts or extreme temperatures. Too cold and they could go into semi hibernation. Keep them away from other pets like cats and dogs. You don’t want to stress them. Make sure it has a nest box with natural bedding; shredded paper is ideal and avoid nylon or cotton wool as they can be dangerous. Wood chippings or sawdust for the floor avoid cedar or pine chippings as they contain oil and are bad for hamsters.
Exercise

Hamsters love to exercise so a wheel in their cage is ideal, make sure that it is a solid one; otherwise they might catch their feet in the rungs. Add some tubes you can use the cardboard ones from kitchen paper in their cages. But they also need time out of their enclosure each day. But remember to check that they can't escape down holes or behind furniture while their out and make sure that it doesn't chew wires or plants also keep other animals like cats or dogs out of the room. We used a clear plastic ball that you put your hamster in it locks together. But make sure you don’t forget about them and no more than 5 mins at a time.
Handling
Hamsters that are handled regularly, especially when they are young, become docile friendly creatures. Hamsters, like people, can sometimes be grumpy when they get woken up, so it's best to handle it when it's already awake. To pick your hamster up gently cup it in your hands and hold it close to your body. If you do get bitten maybe use gloves the next time you pick them up. Handle your hamster with care – wash your hands before and after handling your hamster.
Cleaning

Hamsters will groom themselves, but you may need to gently brush the longhaired varieties. A human babies soft hair brush is ideal. Remember to always clean your hamster's enclosure regularly at least twice a week. Always change their bedding and the floor covering, it might look clean but if left too long it will smell. Clean the water bottle and remove old food on a regular basis. Wash the cage with hot water and a non-toxic disinfectant or buy a special cage cleaner from your pet shop. Rinse them out well after and dry them thoroughly.
Health
You need to make sure that your hamster has something to gnaw to keep its teeth naturally worn. You can special toys at your pet shop, or a good substitute is an apple
branch. If the teeth are getting too long, the hamster will not be able to eat properly and a hamster can die from starvation. There is also a risk that the teeth themselves will grow until they penetrate the skull, killing the hamster. It is hard tell if your hamsters teeth are too big as it dependant on the size of the hamster, if you think they look large it is best to

get them checked by the Vet. Weight loss and loss of appetite might be due to him being unable to eat properly. The teeth in this case need to be clipped. A Vet can trim them for you and they can show you how to use baby nail clippers or nippers to keep the teeth at the right length and once you know what to do and if you are brave enough you can do this yourself.
Hamster can be stricken by colds. For that reason you should be careful about your own hygiene if you have a cold make sure you wash your hands before and after handling the hamster. If the hamster sneezes and its nose or eyes runs, the cage should be cleaned immediately. Place them where it is warm and free from draughts. If the hamster doesn’t recover after a few days, take them to the Vet. A typical hamster disease called “wet tail” with diarrhoea and tiredness. This disease can, if nothing is done, lead to their death. The preparation “dry tail”, which is helps this condition, is sold in pet shops. They hamster must receive additional liquid to compensate for the loss of liquid caused by the diarrhoea, as well. “Wet tail” could very likely break out because of sudden changes in environment and handling.
Make there are no sharp edges in the enclosure which could damage the pouches in your hamster's mouth.
